School Council
Our School Council has had an exciting and productive year so far, taking a leading role in representing pupil voice and helping to shape our school community. They have been busy organising a range of fundraising events, including our upcoming Read-a-thon and the much-loved One World Day, celebrating diversity, culture and global awareness. As part of our commitment to developing active, informed young citizens, the School Council also took part in UK Parliament Week and helped host a special visit from a representative of Parliament and Barry Gardiner for all of Key Stage Two.
This gave pupils a fantastic opportunity to learn more about democracy and how their voices can make a real difference.
To support our whole-school focus on oracy, confidence and critical thinking, the Council leads fortnightly debate sessions, where pupils explore current topics, practise building arguments and develop respectful communication skills. We also embed RRSA articles throughout our debates and decision-making, ensuring that children's rights and global citizenship are at the heart of our discussions and actions. These sessions have quickly become a highlight for many pupils.
In addition, the School Council continues to work on a range of ongoing projects, such as improving playground equipment, promoting eco-friendly initiatives, and gathering feedback from their classmates to bring to meetings. The enthusiasm and dedication help make our school an inclusive, engaging and forward-thinking place to learn.
