Pupil Premium at Mount Stewart Federation

At Mount Stewart Federation, we believe in providing every child with the tools they need to succeed. The Pupil Premium is a vital part of this commitment, offering additional funding to enhance the educational experiences and resources for eligible students.

Understanding Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium is a government initiative designed to level the playing field for pupils from various backgrounds and financial situations, ensuring every child can reach their full potential. This funding supports children who are:

  • Registered for free school meals.
  • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.
  • Are in care, or have been in care.
  • Have parents serving in the armed forces.

Utilisation of Pupil Premium Funds

The funds are strategically used for:

  • Enhancing educational resources and provisions.
  • Academic support and interventions.
  • Wellbeing and self-esteem initiatives.
  • Expanding educational opportunities.

Eligibility for Free School Meals

Your child may be eligible for free school meals if you receive:

  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit.
  • Child Tax Credit (with conditions).
  • Working Tax Credit run-on.
  • Universal Credit (with income conditions).

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)

In addition to Pupil Premium, UIFSM provides free meals to pupils in reception through year 6. However, registering for free school meals under the eligibility criteria is crucial for us to receive Pupil Premium funding.

Free School Meal Registration Benefits

Even if your child prefers packed lunches, registering for free school meals if eligible is important as it enables the school to receive additional funding, benefiting your child's educational experience.

Registration Process

You can easily check eligibility through the school or directly via Brent Council's website. For 'Service' families, registering your child/ren attending our federation generates extra funding (£310 per child) towards educational opportunities.

Pupil Premium Plus for Adopted Children from Care

We encourage parents of children adopted from care to inform us, enabling us to claim Pupil Premium Plus funding. This sensitive information is treated confidentially and is crucial for providing additional educational support.

Pupil Premium Plus Funding and Core Entitlement

Pupil Premium Plus funding, not ring-fenced, is specifically designed to support the unique needs of these children. Core entitlements for eligible children include reduced costs for residential trips and focused monitoring of achievement and progress.

Needs-Led Entitlement

Depending on individual needs, additional support may include:

  • Residential trips.
  • Free access to an after-school club each week.
  • Counselling and Play Therapy.
  • Social and academic interventions.
  • Booster sessions.
  • Assistance with uniform and music tuition costs.
