The Mount Stewart Schools

Year 2

Word of the week

It is essential that children have their own equipment in school to minimise the risk of spreading infection.   These items should be in a simple pencil case, that is clearly labelled and does not have games or novelties attached to it, inappropriate or unsafe equipment will be sent home.  The list below explains what items it is essential for your child to have available to them in their pencil case.

If your child is in Early Years and KS1 (Reception, Year 1 and 2):

✓ 2 x HB pencils

✓ Pencil sharpener

✓ Ruler for underlining – ideally a 15cm (6") or folding ruler would be ideal – so that it fits inside the case

✓ Rubber (we prefer children to neatly cross out errors, but there are some occasions when rubbers are useful)

✓ Glue stick (good quality)

✓ Green handwriting pen for editing work (a biro is acceptable but not gel pens and not fluorescent green).

✓ A pink highlighter

✓ Separate pencil case with colouring pencils

✓ Small rounded end scissors
Whilst the school usually supplies items for pupils to share and use, we are in a situation where this is not possible at the moment.

Therefore, in order for your child to be able to continue their learning please equip your child with the following for September.

Art Supplies

✓ 2 x 2B pencils for Art work

✓ 1 box of water colours containing at 6 or more colours blocks

✓ 2 small paintbrushes

✓ Fine line black pen

Meet The Teacher Session For Parents

On Wednesday 9th September at 6pm

There will be a virtual "meet the teacher" meeting for all year 2 parents. Please see the Google classroom page for the zoom link.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Summer Reading Challenge From Brent Libraries Libraries are opening slowly – we opened Willesden Green and Wembley Library for the first time on Monday 6th July from 10.30 – 14.30. The two libraries will be open from Monday to Friday. Our other libraries will be reopened in a phased approach. Libraries will have strict social distancing and very few people will be allowed in at one time. This means that the Summer Reading Challenge will be primarily online. The Summer Reading Challenge – Silly Squad will run from the 13 July – 30 August. Children must read at least SIX library books over the holidays either borrowed from the libraries that are open or from the e-library. There will be an online programme of events with Storytelling, STEM and Poetry among other things. Here's how to join the Summer Reading Challenge. Join via the Summer Reading Challenge Website Once the child has registered they need to download the My Library App onto their reader/PC and borrow e-readers or We have found a way for the children of these parents to complete the Summer Reading Challenge without registering on the Website: If children already have a Library Card and PIN number they or their parents can download The My Libraries App from the App Store. Or go to on an iPad or computer to download books that way. Using the App is the easiest way to borrow eBooks. Instructions will be provided to do this. If you have a card but can’t remember your Library Card Number and /or their PIN number ring 202 8937 3400
