The children learnt words related to the story. The first layer of the cake are Tier 1 words. They are the everyday words children should use and should know.  The second layer of the cake shows Tier 2 words, which are words that can have more than one meaning and can be used in different contexts. Whilst Tier 3 words usually relate to one particular context. This is the method our school is using to develop children's vocabulary.
