The Mount Stewart Schools

Governors' in School Day

The Mount Stewart Schools Governors come to school for the day.

Thursday 16th January 2020 was 'Governors’ in School Day'.

After starting the day joining senior leaders in their regular morning duties, Governors joined in with a wide variety of lessons and activities throughout the day. In the morning they participated in Maths and English lessons, school debates, Guided Reading sessions and Phonics activities. They also joined the KS1 playtime, KS2 SATs parents meeting, met with middle leaders to learn more about our new concept curriculum,  ate lunch with the children and participated in a pupil voice discussion on the following subjects: Humanities, Jigsaw and Computing. What a busy day!

It was an interesting, informative and fun day, and all of the Governors were very impressed with what they saw. The experience gave them a valuable insight in to what teaching and learning looks like at our school. A special mention must go to our children who were extremely welcoming, happy and confident to talk about their learning and to show the governors their books, and of course were impeccably behaved.

What did the governors think?

'I learned new things about the Schools on my day-even after 16 years a governor. Gillan Barnard- Chair of Governors

'The staff and students were enthusiastic, engaged and energised throughout the day. It was a pleasure to see the hard work of dedicated staff making such an impact. Keep up the good work!' Kishan Parshotam- Shadow Chair, Local Authority Governor
