Careers Week; promoting careers for our young people.
Mount Stewart Schools had a Careers week that took place between 27th and 31st of January, exposing the children to a range of careers talks and workshops. As a school we are keen to develop a Careers week to open our children’s eyes to the world around them. The week was full of various careers workshops for all the children, Nursery to Year 6; from Police, Dentists, Fitness Instructors, Scientists, Accountants and many, many, more…This amazing event will be continued next year and as the years follow on we will aim to have more of our local community and businesses join us. The week enhanced the children's knowledge of the careers, the enormous variety of career opportunities and also the how important this is to them as a learner.
Every class had a visitor who told us all about their job and what skills they needed to get this job. We linked this to our 7R's and having high aspirations. The children participated in a Q&A session with the visitor to find out more about achieving goals, taking risks, facing challenges, being resilient and persevering. Our visitors had a wide range of jobs. See below for the range of careers we covered in just one week!
The children were given the opportunity to experience career-related learning that enabled them to engage progressively in a wide range of experiences of transitions and the world of work. They even applied for a staff position within the schools, the successful appplicants worked alongside a member of staff for the day: helping with their duties and dealing with the day to day elements of school life that are normally unseen.
